Star Wars Rebels saw fit to give us another Hondo episode. Which is fine, because I like the double-dealing heists he gets up to. Even though he’s softened around the edges a little bit since his first appearance.
The rebels have been thirsty all season for some proton bombs, and Hondo knows it.That’s why, as usual, he’s sucked Ezra into the idea that he’s looking out for him. He did, however, fail to mention one thing to Ezra: he’s now business partners with Azmorigan. Hera’s none too pleased, but this is how Hondo knows where to find what they want.
Azmorigan’s a partner since he has the manifest to an Imperial transport that was abandoned in a storm on Wynkahthu. They’re interested in the treasure the ship is carrying; but the bombs are what the rebels are want anyway, so it works out to mutual benefit. Especially since Hondo’s Ugnaught crew is suspiciously absent. Hera places Zeb in charge of the mission, since she knows Ezra is genre-blind where Hondo is involved. He goes to plan it out with AP-5 while Ezra sulks.
They almost immediately find out what happened to Hondo’s crew once on the ship; they boarded it, and only Melch seems to be left. He didn’t seem to be happy that Hondo left him for dead, either. Regardless, they quickly find the cargo bay, And Chopper begins to power everything back up from the bridge. Ezra decides to cut the knot, however, and carves a hole in the door. It quickly becomes apparent that Hondo and Azmorigan don’t get along, since they’re both trying to cheat the other out of treasure. While Ezra and Zeb begin sending bombs over to the Ghost, Azmorigan wanders off in search of “better” treasure.
They soon notice that he’s been gone an awful long time. Zeb orders Ezra to keep sending the bombs while he goes looking for Azmorigan. He too falls afoul of the security droid, and gets locked up, unconscious, in the brig. When he wakes up, he contacts the others, and AP-5 mentions forgetting to factor in the security droids in their plan. He does warn them not to attack it, however.
That flies out the window as they’re hiding and waiting for it to pass. Azmorigan, in a fit of panic, steals Ezra’s blaster and unloads on it, managing a partial take down. His victory is short lived; AP-5 tells them that attacking one of them will summon the others. They make a break for the cargo bay, but the door offers no protection thanks to the hole Ezra made in it. Hondo and Azmorigan make their escape on the one treasure crate they were able to take. Chopper rockets back to the Ghost, leaving Zeb and Ezra to fend off the droids.
Zeb and Ezra try to make their escape on the last of the bombs. As they get halfway across, the droids target the winch, sending them plummeting into Wynkahthu’s atmosphere. Or, it would have, if Zeb hadn’t grabbed the cable and Ezra as they fell. The ship sinks into the storm, and the Ghost pulls free.
Azmorigan and Hondo begin squabbling over the treasure. They’re disappointed when the crate opens and they find Melch inside; he didn’t want to get left behind again. Hera mocks Hondo, and this episode of Star Wars Rebels ends with him trying to save face.
Final Thoughts:
- At least AP-5 doesn’t place the odds in a [millions] to one ratio.
- Shit, Hondo was one Stevie Wonder joke away from the blind royal flush.
- In retrospect, I have no idea why Ezra didn’t use his lightsaber against the droids.
