Star Wars goes on hiatus and adds two unknown actors

Get ready for a lot of Star Wars news, I guess. These are only minor developments, but screw it, clicks are clicks.

Development #1: two small roles have been cast via an open casting call, which always results in already-working actors getting the parts, because the last time an inexperienced unknown was given the lead in a Star Wars film, it was Jake Lloyd as Anakin, which was decidedly not wizard.

Couldn’t find a “Yippee!” gif so I went with this one. I’m not sorry.

Anyway, the actors are Pip Anderson and Crystal Clarke. Here’s a brief bio from StarWars.com:

Crystal Clarke is an American actress studying in Glasgow, UK, who has both stage and screen acting experience and is soon to be seen in her first feature, The Moon and the Sun (to be released in 2015). British actor Pip Andersen is a skilled practitioner of parkour, a discipline that involves propelling oneself through any given environment with incredible grace and agility. Pip recently demonstrated this remarkable skill in a Spider-Man ad for Sony.

Clarke will play Rachel, “an ambitious, 17-year-old, street smart orphan ‘using humor and guts to get by.'” Anderson will play Thomas, “a smart, fatherless guy in his late teens or early twenties who ‘understands you can’t take life too seriously.'” (Both descriptions via Uproxx.)

Devlopment #2: About Harrison Ford’s injury, which necessitated some changes, Disney said:

In August, the team will take a brief two-week hiatus while adjustments to the current production schedule are made as actor Harrison Ford recovers from a leg injury. Harrison is doing well and is looking forward to returning to the set soon. Shooting remains on track to wrap in the fall with the film scheduled for release on December 18, 2015.

Ford must be a tough old bastard, to be in his 70s and only need a break for a few weeks before playing space cowboy again. My grandpa couldn’t even do that, and he’s…wait, shit, my grandpa’s dead. Oh God, why! I miss you so much, Pop Pop!
