Assemble your crew, Captain! The long-running MMO based in the Star Trek Prime universe has finally made the jump onto consoles starting today. PlayStation 4 and Xbox One users can download the game via your consoles respective stores for free.
With over six-years of content coming along for the ride, Star Trek Online is a pretty robust MMO right out of the gate for console users. The main crux of the adventure is broken up into seasons that can be tackled which feature the voice talents of some legendary Star Trek actors. All in all there are fifteen returning cast members that will guide your through your journey to save and protect the Federation from all manner of threats.
The game itself is completely free-to-play, but there are micro-transactions in place for those that want stuff right away. There are a number of fantastic ships locked away and while I have pined for many I have gone since 2010 without paying a dime for content and been just fine.
This console version is the same game that PC players have had for a number of years, but without some improvements thanks to the new generation of consoles. A lot has changed power wise since 2010 and STO is adapting on consoles with new features. There is of course the new menu and control system that fits an entire keyboard on a controller (we shall see how that goes) and a new HUD system. But the biggest change comes in the graphics department that puts the console release above that of the PC with a new dynamic lighting systems and graphical upgrade.
We are currently installing the game on our console here and will hopefully have a review and comparison to the PC edition in the next few days.
