Paramount’s Star Trek 4 has had an incredibly troubled pre-production cycle. And now, it seems the project has been cancelled entirely. According to Deadline, it may be due to the fact that the announced director, SJ Clarkson, Has instead migrated to the pilot for HBO’s Game of Thrones prequel series.
The film has been in trouble for some time though, sadly. After the third movie in the reboot series, it was uncertain whether there would be a fourth at all. And that uncertainty grew when Paramount refused to play ball with Chris Pine and Chris Hemsworth in pay negotiations last year. There was also the Quentin Tarantino film that was separate from Star Trek 4; whether that film will materialize now is also uncertain.
As to what will become of the rebooted series, well, that’s anyone’s guess. The ball seems to be in Paramount’s court right now.
