Sports HDR pass-through.
The PlayStation VR has held a decent spot for a while as the most affordable intro to VR. But it was in need of a few touch-ups. And as such, Sony’s dropping a new version of the PSVR headset.
The new headset offers a number of quality of life upgrades for the device. For one, they’ve streamlined the cord, slimming it down a bit. For another, the headphones are actually built into the unit, so that’s one less cord to deal with. But the most major is adding an HDR pass-through. This makes it so that you don’t need to disconnect the processor unit from your console to enjoy HDR content on your PS4. Sadly, the new headset uses different connectors, so if you want the pass-through, you’ll have to buy a new headset.
While there isn’t any announced date for the redesigned PlayStation VR headset to hit the market in the U.S., it has been announced for October 14th in Japan. So one would imagine some sort of information to come out around that time, if not sooner. Also, since the packaging will be different, you shouldn’t worry too much about which version you’re getting when you buy it, as the new one will be clearly marked.
