CNN is reporting that the hackers behind the Sony breach and subsequent cancellation of The Interview over cowardly, unsubstantiated terrorist threats, have sent Sony an emailing celebrating their victory. The hacker also claim that while more of Sony’s information is safe, for now, that any wrong move on their part and they will release more.
In the end this has nothing to do with physical threats against moviegoers, but instead shows nothing more than simple blackmail. Sony failing to call their bluff sets a terrible precedent for America as a whole. You can read parts of the email sent to Sony below:
It is very wise that you have made a decision to cancel the release of the interview. It’ll be very useful for you…
…We still have you sensitive and private data. We ensure the security of your data, unless you make additional trouble.
The email further goes on to say that the hackers demand that The Interview never be show or sold and that all traces of the film (images, trailers, footage) be wiped from the face of the internet forever.
Now we want you never let the movie released, distributed or leaked in any form of, for instance, DVD or piracy.
And we want everything related to the movie, including its trailers, as well as its full version down from any website hosting them immediately.
Like I have stated in previous articles about the matter, once you open the door to fear it becomes vert hard to ever close it again. By Sony being weak and caving in to fears they have left the door wide open for more threats and the new letter with demands proves that. In a way North Korea just went to war with us and won without ever having to fire a single shoot. Here’s to hoping that Sony finds some strength to stand up to these hackers.
