After the “thing” that was The Angry Birds movie, SONY is set to take on an even more strange project in EMOJIMOVIE: EXPRESS YOURSELF. That’s right, an entire animated film based on those little simley faces that you have on your phone. No word one who has been tapped to play the smiling pile of shit.

Sony Animated actually has a small brief on just what the movie will be:

EMOJIMOVIE: EXPRESS YOURSELF will offer a surprising and comic take on the secret world of our phones and the beloved characters that have become daily necessities in global interpersonal communication. The feature, targeting an August 2017 theatrical release, is directed by Anthony Leondis, produced by Michelle Raimo Kouyate, and written by Anthony Leondis & Eric Siegel.

The film is scheduled to hit theaters August 2017, so that means SONY is planning it at the tail end of summer blockbuster season. Sure, why the hell not.
