Sony already rebooting The Smurfs

Jesus, what’s the shelf life on franchises these days? The first Smurfs movie came out in 2011, and just a mere three years later, Sony is planning on rebooting the franchise with a new installment reportedly “closer to the source material.” That’s good, hopefully there’s more instances of them using “Smurf” as a replacement for other words.

Deadline reports that the director of Shrek 2 and Gnomeo and Juliet, Kelly Asbury, will be at the helm. Hmm, Shrek is one of the stupidest, most quickly dated franchises in animation history, and no one saw Gnomeo and Juliet, but according to those who did, it was a shitpile.

Eventually we’re gonna get to the point where a movie is in theaters at the same time as its remake. It’s like the event horizon of WTF.
