Sonic Mania is on the way, and possibly sooner than you’d expect; August 15th. We got to play a bit of the game at GameStop Expo, and to me at least, it felt right. That’s saying something; I was a SEGA kid.

If you had a Genesis, chances were good you had at least one Sonic game (probably 2; it was the pack-in for the model 2 for a while, IIRC). Playing a Sonic game didn’t really feel like it used to until Generations came around. But Sonic Mania has it down to a T.

The new trailer carries that sentiment over. In between cuts of the game itself, hand-drawn animation. Which, itself, is fairly reminiscent of the opening animation to Sonic CD. And no, that’s not just because it features “Classic” Sonic.

Needless to say, I’m pretty jazzed about it.
