Sofia Coppola To Fill The Little Mermaid With Wealthy Ennui

Since all Hollywood seems to be interested in nowadays is live-action retellings of classic Disney cartoons, it makes sense that Sofia Coppola is in negotiations to direct The Little Mermaid for Universal.

The script has already been worked on by Caroline Thompson (Edward Scissorhands), Abi Morgan (Shame), and Kelli Marcel (Fifty Shades of Grey). No word yet on how a bored, disaffected Ariel (played by Carey Mulligan or Emma Watson) will leave the pool of the Chateau Marmont to be with Eric, “prince” of the Hollywood social scene, played by Ryan Gosling in a performance that never requires him to remove his Ray-Bans. With Robin Wright as Ursula.
