Still as joyless as BvS, but roughly twice the runtime.
Well, apparently you all wanted it, and now you’re getting it: the mythical Snyder Cut of Justice League. Warner Bros. just announced that the Snyder approved cut of the film would be released on the upcoming streaming service, HBO Max.
Snyder himself announced that the film, titled Zack Snyder’s Justice League, would hit the service sometime in 2021. “We still have some work to do,” he admits in relation to the premiere. Per The Hollywood Reporter, the film is being retooled, including additional dialogue and digital effects, with a projected cost somewhere around $20-$30 million. The film might not be presented as a film after all that, but rather as a mini series. Speaking to THR, Snyder said:
It will be an entirely new thing, and, especially talking to those who have seen the released movie, a new experience apart from that movie. You probably saw one-fourth of what I did.
Honestly, before this, the “Snyder Cut” wasn’t even a cut, it was several hours of pre-production footage with no special effects. But apparently, Zack and Debbie Snyder were able to convince Warner and HBO Max of the merits of their planned vision for the film… after a massive campaign on social media convinced them there was money in contacting the Snyders and doing it.
When Zack and Debbie shared the extraordinary vision of where Zack wanted to take Justice League, my team and our counterparts at Warner Bros. took it as a mission to solve the many issues that stood in the way. Thanks to the partnership at Warner Bros. and the relentless pursuit of the entire WarnerMax team we are able to deliver this incredibly exciting moment for Zack, the fans, and HBO Max.

Deborah Snyder does, however, make a case for the value of the project even I can’t argue with. Namely, that with the coronavirus pandemic, plenty of post production and effects houses are practically out of work, even though they need it.
People thought, ‘It won’t be possible to ramp up, and that maybe this should go on the back burner.’ But we said, ‘No, this is the right time’ because our visual effects houses that rely on so much are running out of work, so now is the time to be doing this.

Well, some good comes out of it, at least from my point of view. I expect this to break me like Batman vs Superman did, though. Criminy, that promo image is on point; absolutely no color.
