SNES Games Discovered to Be Heading To Switch Online

Switch

I bet you feel dumb for buying that SNES Classic now, huh?

Well, that $20 you paid for Switch Online is about to buy you an even greater value. Thanks to the efforts of @OatmealDome, @Simon1844 and @KappuchinoHeck on Twitter, a number of SNES games have been found mentioned in the strings of the NES Online App for the Switch.

And, oh boy, is there quite the list:

  • Super Mario Kart
  • Super Soccer
  • Legend of Zelda: Link to the Past
  • Demon’s Crest
  • Yoshi’s Island
  • Stunt Race FX
  • Kirby’s Dream Course
  • Pop’n Twinbee
  • Star Fox
  • Contra 3
  • Kirby Super Star
  • Super Ghouls ‘n Ghosts
  • Kirby’s Dream Land 3
  • Super Metroid
  • Super Mario World
  • Pilotwings
  • F-ZERO
  • Star Fox 2
  • Super Punch-Out!!
  • The Legend of the Mystical Ninja
  • Super Mario
  • All-Stars
  • Breath of Fire 2

In addition, a number of emulator types were found by @OatmealDome:

I found four emulator types:

Kachikachi (NES Classic)

Canoe (SNES Classic)

Hiyoko (???)

Count (???)

This could mean there will be two new Classic consoles and/or three new consoles for Switch Online.

Kachikachi and Canoe are already accounted for, which just leaves the other two. Count is suspected by @OatmealDome to be a counter for the number of emulators or something like that. Which just leaves Hiyoko as the wild card; ripe for rampant speculation. It could be a Game Boy emulator, but I imagine most are hoping it’s an N64 emulator.

Granted, these are just codenames and indications right now. There’s no telling when these games will be added to the service, if Nintendo decides to do so at all. But they do all seem to be planned. So maybe soon you’ll be able to take some SNES games with you on the go through the Switch without having to deal with a bunch of separate devices.
