Sinner: Sacrifice for Redemption – Dark Star Game Studios Debut

I wonder if Hell has a circle exclusively for double-dippers?

Dark Star Game Studios, a studio formed by ex-Ubisoft, Blizzard and Konami developers, is putting out their first game. Sinner: Sacrifice for Redemption is meant to bring to mind the likes of Dark Souls, Shadow of the Colossus and Dante’s The Divine Comedy. The Divine Comedy, eh? Either way, Dark Star Game Studios is taking a more deliberate approach, judging from the tip of the hat to Dark Souls. I will say that, based on that trailer, it has way more going for it than the last game to dip its foot in Dante Alighieri’s territory. The press release gives a bit of background for the game’s hero, Adam:

Adam, a fallen soldier on a quest to save his soul, will face eight abhorrent bosses, the first seven each based on one of the deadly sins. Before each clash, Adam must make a sacrifice to enter combat and choose a stat to level down. Each fight will be tougher than the last and force players to carefully choose their actions in battle, aided by a variety of unlockable weapons.

The action is framed by a desolate afterlife in which Adam seeks to restore his memories and atone for his sins. How he interacts with each boss will ultimately decide his fate in one of multiple endings.

Much like Dark Souls, you’re probably going to need to be smart about how you do things, because everything can likely overpower you. Sadly, the game won’t be ready for PC until early next year. But, if you’re anything like me, Sinner: Sacrifice for Redemption has piqued your interest far more than Dante’s Inferno ever did.
