Chances are, if you’ve played Shovel Knight, you love it. How could you not? Not only is it a practically perfect love letter to old school platformers, Yacht Club Games keeps dropping new campaigns for free to everyone who owns the game. But there’s one thing you might not expect for the character; a trip through Dark Souls.
Well, thanks to Reddit user _Abject_, you will soon be able to grant Shovel Knight all the humanity he can hold. With a few clever substitutions (The Winged Spear was modded into the signature shovel) you can now take a unique trip through Dark Souls.
“I’m still working on the hitbox, some polygons with bad texture mapping, and the overall textures,” says _Abject_. “The helmet used is the Royal Helm, and the rest of the armor is from the Golem Set. I want to share it with you in order to have some feedback. I would like to do a very good looking mod and not something just like a reskin.”
The Shovel Souls mod isn’t just a reskin, though; that much is evident already. The mod features Shovel knight’s soundtrack and sound effects, as well as a reworked camera angles and equipment screens. While the mod’s far from finished, it’s promising. You will however, need Dark Souls to play it. And also be prepared to rage. And die.
