Shonen Jump Celebrates 50th Anniversary with Smartphone Mascot Fighter

Shonen Jump

A buttload of characters.

So we’ve talked about Jump Force, right? Well, that’s not necessarily all there is to see for Shonen Jump’s 50th anniversary. Because there’s  also Jikkyou Janjan Stadium, in Japan at least.

The game comes courtesy of Konami. And, I mean it when I say this; it features characters from Shonen Jump’s most popular manga across that 50 year span, in chibi form. Goku from Dragon Ball, Arale from Dr. Slump, Kenshiro from Fist of the North Star, Jotaro Kujo from Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders, Gon from Hunter X Hunter, Yugi Yu-Gi-Oh, Kenshin from Ruroni Kenshin, even Light Yagami and Ryuk from Death Note. I could literally go on, and take way longer than strictly necessary. That’s what the video is for, though:

Also, that moment when you realize that One Piece is 20 years old.

It’s a fairly simplified game meant for four players. Nothing too complicated that it couldn’t be done on a smartphone screen. And, there’s no doubt in my mind that it’ll be the one to kill Melee at EVO.

It’ll be on display at the Jump Victory Carnival in Tokyo on July 16,  in Osaka on July 22. Jikkyou Janjan Stadium is set for a 2018 release on iOS and Android… in Japan. There’s only a slightly above 0% chance it’ll make it out of Japan, so don’t hold your breath.
