The New (new) Era over at WWE is supposed to be all about the talent and not about authority figures. So when it was announced that onscreen General Manager Shane McMahon was part of the traditional 5-on-5 Survivor Series match, fans were wary.
Look, we all love Shane McMahon, but let’s face facts: Shane is an old man. Looking back on his days in the Attitude Era I wish he never took the bumps that he did. He’s not a wrestler and because of that the chances of getting hurt go up exponentially.
That came to a head during Sunday’s Survivor Series when Shane McMahon was legitimately injured after a move gone slightly wrong. Shane was attempting a coast-to-coast dropkick from the top rope when he was caught mid-air from a spear by Roman Reigns (this guys just can’t catch a break).
The move looked to catch Shane high and he proceeded to smack the back of his head off the mat after landing –hard. Watching the show I knew something was wrong as the referee was on him after the 3-count. Doctors came out and the match slowed to a crawl while he was attended to.
Things were scary enough that Randy Orton broke kayfabe (scripted events) to console McMahon’s family who were sitting ringside. You can check out the photo below:
Let’s face facts here, wrestling is a dangerous business to be in. There is no reason a non-wrestler needs to be jumping off cages, through tables, and taking insane bumps. Wrestling fans already love Shane McMahon for what he’s given to the sport, he has nothing to prove.
