‘Shadows of Adam’ might by the JRPG to get me back into JRPGs

Something Classic Games today released their love letter to the JRPG genre, Shadows of Adam.

Shadows of Adam is a modernized JRPG that tells the story of 2 abandoned children who set off on an epic journey together to save their homeland and uncover the truth behind their father’s abrupt disappearance.

Along with those retro-pixel visuals I love, a lengthy 10 – 16-hour storyline and an original soundtrack with 44 tracks, Shadows of Adam features a unique fast-paced AP battle system that encourages the use of skills to destroy your enemies.

Shadows of Adam launches on Steam today with a 15% launch discount after 3 and a half years of development and a successful Kickstarter campaign in late 2016.

“It’s an honor for us to provide Shadows of Adam in its entirety to newcomers, followers, fans and of course to our Kickstarter supporters,” said Something Classic Games Art Director Tim Wendorf. “This game is our tribute to an industry which has consistently rewarded its followers for decades by offering classic after classic to keep even the strongest and most unique RPG urges satiated.”

I haven’t been able to get sucked into a modern JRPG since Final Fantasy 10, a game a had a LOT of issues with and the point where I mostly gave up on the Final Fantasy thing. Since then I’ve stuck to replaying Chrono Trigger and Secret of Mana on my SNES.

Shadows of Adam may be an indie title and it might not be up to the level of the games I’ve mentioned, it’s managed to get my attention in a way other modern JRPGs just haven’t. And that’s enough for me to take a look at it.
