Actually has more game than Nintendid.
Sega mentioned their plans for their Genesis/Mega Drive mini a while ago. But, as this is the year they plan on launching it, they decided to share a few more details.
For one, the price. The Genesis/Mega Drive mini is going to run you $79.99. And pre-orders are open now at Walmart, Amazon, Best Buy, and GameStop. And, moreover, they little system launches September 19th this year.
For another, they’ve announced 10 more games for the console. This means that roughly half the roster for the mini (40 being what it will launch with) has been announced. Here’s what will be on the Western release of the Genesis Mini:
- Altered Beast
- Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse
- Castlevania: Bloodlines
- Comix Zone
- Contra Hard Corps
- Dr. Robotnik’s Mean Bean Machine
- Earthworm Jim
- Ecco the Dolphin
- Gunstar Heroes
- Landstalker
- Shining Force
- Shinobi III: Return of the Ninja Master
- Sonic the Hedgehog
- Sonic the Hedgehog 2
- Space Harrier 2
- Streets of Rage 2
- Super Fantasy Zone
- Thunder Force III
- Toe Jam & Earl
- World of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck
Granted, the Japanese version, the Mega Drive Mini, has a slightly different announced list, if you’re interested:
- Castlevania: Bloodlines
- Comix Zone
- Contra Hard Corps
- Dyna Brothers 2
- Game no Kanzume Otokuyou
- Gunstar Heroes
- Landstalker
- Madou Monogatari I
- Musha
- Powerball
- Puyo Puyo Tsu
- Rent-A-Hero
- Shining Force
- Space Harrier 2
- Sonic the Hedgehog 2
- Streets of Rage 2
- Super Fantasy Zone
- The Hybrid Front
- Thunder Force III
- World of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck
The one major letdown comparing the two is that the Genesis Mini comes with the original standard 3 button controllers, whereas the Mega Drive Mini has the 6 button controllers. On the plus side, the controllers are USB, so you should be able to find an aftermarket option, but still. Oh well, at least they’re actually giving us a AC adapter in the box.
The Genesis/Mega Drive Mini has been selling pre-orders like hotcackes. So, unlike the PlayStation Classic, this is looking to be a major success for Sega.
