Sega Genesis Mini Is Headed To North America, Too

Sega Genesis Mini 2

Guaranteed to make Ojisan happy.

Remember that Mega Drive Mini 2? Well, good news, then; the Sega Genesis Mini 2 is headed to North America as well. And with a planned release on the same day: October 27th.

Just like its Japanese counterpart, the Genesis Mini 2 is coming with over 50 games, including Sega CD titles. In addition, and probably due to the fact that not all of the titles from the Japanese version are easy to license in NA (I imagine we won’t be getting the Lunar games or Popful Mail, but a man can dream), we’re also getting two previously unreleased Genesis games: Fantasy Zone and a Genesis port of the PC Engine’s Star Mobile. That said, both of those, as well as a number of other games, are on the Mega Drive Mini 2 as well.

The games currently announced for the new Genesis Mini:

Sega CD:

  • Sonic CD
  • Shining Force CD
  • Silpheed
  • Yumemi Mystery Mansion/ Mansion of Hidden Souls
  • Night Striker
  • NinjaWarriors

Genesis:

  • After Burner II
  • OutRun
  • OutRunners
  • Virtua Racing
  • Super Hang-On
  • Sonic 3D Blast
  • Shining in the Darkness
  • Vectorman 2
  • The Ooze
  • Bonanza Brothers
  • Alien Soldier
  • Rainbow Islands Extra
  • Splatterhouse 2
  • Rolling Thunder 2
  • Lightening Force
  • Fantasy Zone
  • Star Mobile

Even better, though, is that the Genesis Mini 2 is getting the 6-button controller this time around. No more funky 3-button hijinks for any fighting games they happen to give us this time.

The Sega Genesis Mini 2 is going to be an Amazon exclusive. Pre-orders are currently open, and it’ll run you $103.80 and an additional $22 delivery fee, since they’re being shipped straight to the US from Japan.
