It’s been some twenty years since the original Sega Genesis hit the market and gave Nintendo a run for its money. A few console variants later and Sega was on life support after stuffing all sorts of add-ons that never fully panned out.
Say what you will about the choices made by Sega, the Genesis still made a huge impact and is close to a lot of hearts. That nostalgia seems to have come to a head as the Sega Genesis is going back into production.
While Nintendo is handling the release of their own classic console, Sega isn’t involved with this new/old Genesis aside from licencing the name. Techtoy, a Brazilian company is handling everything and has a page open for pre-orders.
This replica console is faithfully modeled after the model one Genesis right down to having only classic inputs for controllers and video. This means that there isn’t any fancy HDMI and only RCA video that has been around since the 80s.
Aside from the modified audio/video ports (not that weird propriety Sega thing it used) the only difference is an included SD card slot that will handle the included games. The unit will have 22 included games:

The only downside is that this new Sega Genesis is only available in Brazil, so if you want to import it its going to cost you around $130 for just the device. It’s a cool device, but that’s a lot of money when you can buy a used Genesis and load of games for less.
It might be weird that this is a Brazil exclusive, but the Genesis is still huge down there. Sales for used consoles and bootlegs still make lots of money each year and original video games are still being released for the Genesis in Brazil. It’s like some time warp down there.
