Xbox fanbase inconsolable.
Chances are good that you saw some of the hullabaloo regarding rumors that four previously Xbox exclusive games heading to Nintendo’s Switch as well as the PS4 and PS5 last week. Well, those rumors are true.
First up is Sea of Thieves, which will hit the PS5 on April 30th, and even support cross-play. It won’t be the first of these games to go multiplatform, though. That honor goes to Pentiment, which will hit PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch on February 22nd. Last year’s surprise hit Hi-Fi Rush will land on PS5 next, on March 19th. Finally, Grounded will land on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch on April 16th.
The Sea of Thieves team even put out a little video about the announcement:
Needless to say, however, the genie is out of the bottle, and anything could be next. Phil Spences has said that currently, Starfield and the upcoming Indiana Jones game are definitely not on the table for this treatment, and the brand is keeping their dedication to Xbox hardware. But that’s not a guarantee for what the future may hold. And, speaking to The Verge, Spencer didn’t rule such a future for either game, saying, “I don’t think we should as an industry ever rule out a game going to any other platform.”
It’s also worth noting that Spencer stated that Xbox is supportive of physical media. To that end, both Pentiment and Hi-Fi Rush are getting physical releases… by Limited Run Games.
