SDCC 2017: Suicide Squad Director David Ayers on Directing Gotham City Sirens

Why does it still feel like they’re jumping the gun?

As it turns out, David Ayers is not directing a sequel to Suicide Squad. Instead, he’ll be direction Gotham City Sirens. When asked why, he responded:

It’s a story about three fantastic women who’re trying to find their way in the world, and realize that they have more power together than they do individually.

I have daughters, and I want to create something that might be able to help them get along in the world a little bit.

Which… probably isn’t the reason I’d give. Then again, the reason I’d give would probably get you fired, so there’s that to consider. Still it seems a bit off that Gotham City Sirens might wind up being the DC cinematic universe introduction to Catwoman and Poison Ivy. A lot of the things they’re trying to adapt in between the Herocentric films seems to be the sort of thing you really need to build up to first.

Nonetheless, Gotham City Sirens is happening, so hopefully they build things up a bit in between. Especially since it has a prospective release set in 2020, according to Warner Bros. Rumors are also pointing to Black Mask as the villain, but anything can happen in 3 years.
