I always have coffee when I watch commercials.
I’ve honestly yet to meet anyone that doesn’t love Rick Moranis. But he hasn’t been in anything onscreen in a while (notwithstanding a few voice roles that didn’t require him to travel), since retiring to focus on his children in 1997. But he’s now out of retirement, and his first actual onscreen role isn’t the expected return in the Disney+ revival of Honey I Shrunk The Kids. Rather, it’s a commercial for Mint Mobile.
The commercial features Ryan Reynolds giving the usual spokes speak expected of a commercial, before comparing Mint’s previous lack of an unlimited plan to the absence of Rick Moranis over the years. Moranis walks on screen, proves he’s still got that magic, and, well, watch:
Reynolds was particularly jazzed that they were able to get the comedy legend for the commercial. And there is something of a palpable irony in having two Canadian actors in a commercial for a phone service that isn’t available in Canada.
Regardless, it’s a treat to see Rick Moranis onscreen again.
