Rocket League Heads Back To The 80’s With Their Radical Summer Event

Rocket League

I ain’t afraid of no goals.

Rocket League is taking it back to the 80’s for this one. Their Radical Summer event begins June 10th, and promises 3 separate celebrations of some of the best movies (that featured iconic cars) the 80’s had to offer. And each of them comes with limited-time game modes, items, and cars.

Rocket League

From June 10th to July 1st is 80’s Blockbusters, which launches alongside the Ghostbusters Car Pack, featuring the iconic Ecto-1, Ecto-1 wheels, Proton Pack boost, Slimer Topper, Mr. Stay Puft goal explosion, and Ghostbusters player avatar and banner; all of which you get for $2. It also features the game’s first limited-time game mode, Ghost Hunt, which has players working together to get the ball into the opponent’s containment zone using proton streams. Since this is the Blockbuster event and not the Ghostbusters event, though, it also features a number of car items for movies like Back to the Future, E.T., The Goonies, and The Karate Kid. Kinda disappointed we won’t get to wreck Cameron’s Dad’s car, but I guess you can’t have everything.

After that, from July 1st to the 22nd is 80’s Culture. Which is probably all Walkmans, neon colored everything, and dinosaurs on skateboards or something. The limited-time mode for this period is Spike Rush, which gives everyone the spike powerup from Rumble.

Finally, everything rounds out with 80’s Television, which runs from July 22 to August 12. Alongside this is the Knight Rider Car Pack, which naturally gives you KITT, as well as a number of unspecified Knight Industries items. The mode fo this period is Beach Ball; a 2v2 mode with low ball gravity, Curveball in play, and a naturally larger ball. The rest of the celebration features memorable television from the period, including Voltron and some WWF WWE items. Sadly no Magnum P.I., Transformers, or even M.A.S.K., but they gotta save stuff for next time, right?

Regardless, the patch that preps the game for all of this should already be out now. You’re gonna be having so much fun this summer, you’ll need plastic surgery to remove your goddamn smiles! You’ll all be whistling Zip-a-dee-doo-dah out of your assholes!
