Rocket Arena: The 3v3 Shooter Where No One Dies

Rocket Arena

Think FPS Smash Bros., only with no Final Destination.

Novelty is something that’s been a bit lacking in online games of late. Everyone is consumed with chasing the latest craze. You need look no further than the glut of battle royale games. So when something interesting comes along, you take a bit of notice. Thus, Rocket Arena; a game where, no matter how many shots you take, you don’t die.

Oh Danny boy…

No, the game is about locking down your opponent’s recovery. You’re given a number of badges, and every time you fail to get back into the arena, you lose one. And when you’re out of badges, you’re out. Except, you’re not totally sidelined at that point; you’re still in the match, and you can still help your team win.

As a matter of fact, Rocket Arena is a fairly refreshing take on the Arena Shooter genre in that regard. You’ve got unlimited ammo, each hero has the particulars of their launcher and an ability with a reasonable cooldown. Notably, there’s no limit on how many of a hero can be on a team (you could all be Tracer).

There are a few different modes. Knockout is your standard deathmatch, minus the “death” part. Mega Rocket is a point control mode, with new rockets periodically landing to act as new points. Finally, you have Rocketball, which is exactly what it says on the tin; you grab a ball, and try to get it in the other team’s goal, with the highest score winning.

Mobility’s the name of the game, here. You not only have the expected rocket jumps, you also have a triple jump. The game is incredibly vertical by design, though that might not be apparent by the stages.

The live beta starts on the 23rd, and runs through May 29th. As for when the game launches proper, however… well, that’s still up in the air.
