I feel like I don’t have a dog in this fight.
OpenCritic, one of the largest review aggregators, has decided to take a stand against loot boxes. Specifically, those in paid games.
We're going to take a stand against loot boxes. We're looking into ways to add business model information to OpenCritic.

Ignore my apathy; I’ve personally spent the past decade and a half pretty much hating aggregator sites. I just think that stuffing a bunch of numerical scores from a bunch of critics in a blender and hitting puree isn’t terribly useful (OpenCritic at least seems to do things differently). Unless you’re the kind of person that thinks numerical scores are super useful (protip: most of the time they aren’t, not even mine). Versus things that occasionally give you cool stuff you really shouldn’t break the bank over.
That all said, there are plenty of shitty things going on in the industry right now (*cough*exorbitant paid DLC prices*cough*). So it’s nice to see at least one of these sites calling developers on some of it. Congratulations, OpenCritic; you’re doing God’s work, I guess.
