The success of the Resident Evil 2 remake made it clear that there was a massive demand for the classic Resident Evil series. Sure, Capcom has been remaking the RE games on Nintendo consoles since the Wii, but we are talking about HD consoles here.
We’ve talked about the potential Resident Evil 3 remake a few times, even diving into the various leaks over the past months, but now we have details on the project thank to PlayStation’s State of Play 2019 event. The buzz recently has been around the coop multiplayer title Resident Evil Resistance, and now we know that Resistance will be bundled with Resident Evil 3.
This is a really smart move that I didn’t think of before. Launching a new Resident Evil side-game is a risk, even during the best of times. Games not based on the core series of any game are already fighting an uphill battle. And do I have to talk about the mess that have been the past Resident Evil spin-off games?
As for Resident Evil 3, the game has its fans and was a nice farewell to the original PlayStation (we ignore Resident Evil Survivor) but it’s less known than the second or fourth entries into the series. the RE2 remake had history on its side to help draw in new fans as chances were they had at least heard of the game. RE3 is less know in the modern gaming landscape, so bundling with what amounts to an online coop gaming in Resistance is a good move.
Resident Evil 3 takes place just before and directly after the outbreak that breaks out in Racoon City in the second game. What made the game memorable for those that experienced it was the fact that the entire game saw you stalked by the hulking Nemesis bioweapon. He was unstoppable and had his eyes on eliminating all S.T.A.R.S. members from the mansion incident.
Resident Evil 3 will launch in April of 2020, the most scariest of months!
