Why not?
Last week, Netflix announced that they would be ending their DVD rental business; a shame, as there are things there that are not available anywhere else. But maybe it won’t simply ride into the sunset, as Redbox has expressed interest in buying that branch of the business out.
Bill Rouhana, CEO of Chicken Soup for the Soul Entertainment (which bought Redbox last year for $370 million) told The Hollywood Reporter that he has reached out multiple times to convince Netflix to sell their DVD-by-mail rental service to him. He was rejected down every time.
“I have tried like three or four times to reach out to the corporate development people about it but just got rebuffed each time. So when I saw it being closed, I thought, ‘Well, maybe they’ll do it now’.

Netflix, however, doesn’t seem interested in selling. Which seems to work out for Rouhana regardless.
This could be a great boon to us because now there are a whole bunch of people who are going to look for a new place to get their DVDs, and we’re close to 90 percent of them based on where our kiosks are located.

Considering the fact that you can find a Redbox kiosk absolutely everywhere, he may be right. Though one does wonder why Netflix is being so resolute as to refuse to sell thing thing they’re simply going to get nothing out of by sunsetting. Either way, Netflix will ship their last disc on September 29th, 2023.
