Razer To Close Their Game Store

Razer

You gotta know when to fold ’em.

Razer may be one of the top gaming peripheral manufacturers, but they clearly didn’t have quite the success they hoped for in the digital games market. Because after less than a year of operation, Razer will be closing down their game store at the end of February. The company has announced this move as being “part of realignment plans”.

Dear Gamers,

We regret to announce that Razer Game Store (gamestore.razer.com) will cease operations on February 28, 2019 at 0100hrs Pacific Time as part of the company’s realignment plans.

It has been a privilege for us to recommend and deliver great digital game deals to you. We have been extremely fortunate to have you as part of our awesome community. Thank you for the support and making all this possible.

We will be investing in other ways to deliver great content and introduce game promotions through Razer Gold, our virtual credits system (https://gold.razer.com/). Do visit us there and stay tuned for more news.

Yours truly,
The Razer Game Store team

On the one hand, they did a few novel things, which makes this parting bittersweet. For example, their credit system encouraged users to purchase new games and hardware through them. On the other hand, it may seem a foregone conclusion that they would fold After all, the major players (*cough*Steam*cough) they’re trying to take a bite out of have over a decade’s lead on them. The same goes for all of the other competitors springing up.

The Razer Game Store will end its service on February 28th at 1AM PST. Razer has stated that all purchases will still be available and work, as will pre-ordered games. Discount vouchers, however, must be redeemed before that time.
