PS Store Pulls Game Pages After Glitch Allows People To Download Full Games From Demos

PS Store

Might be a precursor to something…

Earlier in the week, some users on ResetEra found that by downloading the demo to certain games on the PS Store, they were able to download the entire game for free.

Specifically, these were games from the PS Plus Collection; PS4 games which are made free for PS Plus members on PS5. The collection features some of the biggest hits on the PS4, including the likes of Bloodborne, God of War, Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy, Final Fantasy XV Royal Edition, Monster Hunter: World, Persona 5, and Resident Evil 7 biohazard, among others.

The trick would allow players to, through a PS4, gain access to these titles despite not being on PS5. All one had to do was download a demo, go to the option to buy the game (per nolifebr’s post), choose the image to bring up the game page, press the choose version button, and select the second provided version. And then you’d have the game, 100% free. Well, provided you have a valid PS Plus Subscription.

Coincidentally, Sony has since taken down pages for games in the collection. It’s not hard to imagine why.

It does however raise a question: why was this even possible? There’s some speculation out there that the Collection is eventually headed to PS4 (which wouldn’t be a bad idea on Sony’s part to keep some good will going; last I checked, PS5’s are still in short supply even if you have the money for one). There’s also the possibility that access was shut off retroactively; while the games were playable before, Sony may have revoked the license for these users to play them.
