I was always personally disappointed the Prince never used his time abilities to cheat at trivia games and stuff.
If you’re like me, you probably have pretty fond memories of Ubisoft’s 2003 game Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. Opinions of the sequels vary; personally, I feel that they de-emphasized the fun part (the platforming) and went in hard on the least fun aspect of the first game (the combat). If you’ve never played it, however, you should find a way to do so.
Frankly, I didn’t know that they were attempting to remake it in the Assassin’s Creed engine, and I imagine most people didn’t. But they were, and it continually missed deadlines, to the point where it was delayed indefinitely and we’re now over a year past it’s original launch date, January 2021. And now, the news is that the development team that was working on it has been taken off the project.
Previously, the game was being worked on by Ubisoft’s teams in India (Pune and Mumbai, specifically). They’ve since been removed from the project, and it’s been handed over to Ubisoft Montreal– the original devs for the game.
Ubisoft released a statement, signed only as “Dev Team”, delivering the news.
Honestly, it’s not much of a surprise that this happened, because… I mean, they’re Ubisoft. I imagine that they decided that reception to the initial footage they released of the remake led to higher-ups wanting more than just an AssCreed asset flip:
Add to that the fact that Ubisoft mostly uses their Asian dev teams for sort of the same purpose Activision Blizzard wastes Raven on, and you might imagine some unreasonable demands were made, leading to the current stated of affairs.
