It’s not everyday we get a new game on the Wii U, so when news of one comes across my desk I take notice. The lovely people at Rising Star Games announced today that PONCHO is now available in the Nintendo eShop on the Wii U system.
Brought to you by the creative minds at Delve Interactive, PONCHO’s open-world 2D adventure offers a unique twist: at any time, players can shift at will between three planes of depth, allowing them to traverse obstacles in different planes of existence. It really feels like a sort of cross between Fez and Wario World that was on the failed Virtual Boy!
Check out the trailer below:
PONCHO tells the story of the eponymous robot, who awakens to discover a post-apocalyptic world where humanity has completely disappeared. Players will discover an artfully pixelated world, filled with environmental puzzles, and choose from various paths to take, as they travel through the game’s many varied ecosystems to unravel its mysteries.
Released to acclaim from critics and fans alike, PONCHO has been hailed as a “bright, vibrant and well-sought puzzle-platformer that sticks to what it sets out to do, achieving it in plentiful amounts,” (HardcoreGamer ‘4 out of 5’). Reviewers have declared that PONCHO is “a wonderfully fresh take on the apocalypse with some stunning pixel-art visuals and pixel-perfect platforming,” and a “tremendously enjoyable experience,” (PlayStation Universe ‘8 out of 10’), as well as “an entertaining little treat for the retro crowd, especially those seeking something different from the usual platformer.” (GameCrate ‘7.75 out of 10’)
Developed by Delve Interactive and published by Rising Star Games, PONCHO is now available in the Nintendo eShop on Wii U for $9.99/€8.99/£7.99. Players can also experience PONCHO on PC, Mac, Linux, and PlayStation 4. For more information, follow Rising Star Games on Twitter and visit the official Rising Star Games website.
