Pokken Tournament has Tekken meeting Pokemon in new fighter

Poken Tournament

Nintendo has been hinting at a “shocking” announcement for some time now, and boy did they ever undersell the whole “shocking” thing. It has been revealed today by The Pokemon Company that a new game starring those lovable pocket monsters is in the works.

But don’t be fooled, this isn’t your standard Pokemon fare. The game titled “Pokken Tournament” will be a one-on-one high-octane fighter. You heard that right, Pokken Tournament will be a straight up arcade fighting game.

Even crazier, the game is being developed by Bandai Namco’s Tekken team, so you can expect some top quality fighting action. Not only that, but the game is being handled by Katsuhiro Harada from Tekken and Masaaki Hoshino of Soul Caliber.

Unfortunately, a few things aren’t looking so good for Western gamers. As of this writing the game is being targeted for an arcade only release with no current plans for a home console port, although locking down Pokken Tournament for the Wii U would do wonders for sales.

Pokken Tournament is set to hit Japanese arcades in 2015. Check out the trailer below.
