In something that is sure to change the face of the stagnant MOBA genre, The Pokemon Company has announced that they are getting into the MOBA game with the upcoming Pokemon UNITE.
Pokemon UNITE will be a free-to-play MOBA based on the POkemon franchise. Of all the games that got a MOBA treatment, Pokemon makes the most sense, even if I still miss the DC MOBA that never really got a chance.
The game will feature 5v5 team battles where players catch, fight, and evolve Pokemon. The difference is that the team is looking for this to be a game that anyone can jump into but one that will also carter to competitive players.
If you’ve played League of Legends you get the basic idea, although things seem to be a bit more simplified. You get with a team of players and work to take a number of goals from the opponent. The trick comes from catching wild Pokemon on the map to score points.
You control a specific Pokemon with their abilities. You can choose the abilities as you level up by defeating wild Pokemon on the field. It’s a cool little system in a charming world.
The games is being launched as a free game on both mobile devices and Nintendo Switch which should really help sales with the Nintendo Switch as if that little money printing machine needed any help.
