We live in such a strange time when a video game can crash your Roku device by sending it into an endless boot loop. The bug is caused by the Nintendo Switch game Pokemon Sword & Shield.
The problem stems from both the game and Roku devices sharing the same network. Both the game and Roku devices listen to port 26037 and because Sword & Shield are constantly searching for nearby consoles interference may happen.
This means that when Sword & Shield is looking for consoles nearby your Roku device can’t update itself while on the same network. This then seems to send some Roku devices into an endless boot loop as it fights to use the same port.
It’s such a weird but, and while only affecting a small number of users and Roku units must have been head-scratching for those affected. Roku has already rolled out a firmware that fixes this issue, so even if you are fine it would be best to run a software update through your Roku.
For those affected by the bug and have their Roku currently suck in a booth loop, Roku have issued a set of instructions (found here) to help you reset your device so it can update.
