PlayStation VR Drops This October for $400

PlayStation VR

GDC is upon us and with that comes some mush awaited news. Behind closed doors at a meeting during the show, it was announced that PlayStation VR will hit the market this October for the price of $399.

Yes, that’s a pretty big number, but it should be noted that is well under any other major VR device that is also coming to market soon. They also noted that they have over 230 developers on board with 50 games expected to take advantage of PSVR by the end of the year.

To help pull in people Sony will be offering a special version of Star Wars Battlefront for the device free when it releases later this year. The $400 price tag should help entice those on the fence with VR, especially with the games background that Sony has already in place with the PS4. That, coupled with the fact that The Oculus Rift is coming in at $600 and the HTC Vive setting you back some $800, and you have the possibility of stealing the VR market.

At least Sony will get some use with all those Move lollipops they have in storage.

The current games confirmed for launch are:

  • Eagle Flight (Ubisoft)
  • EVE: Valkyrie (CCP Games)
  • Headmaster (Frame Interactive)
  • Rez Infinite (Enhance Games)
  • Wayward Sky (Uber Entertainment)
  • RIGS: Mechanized Combat League (SCE WWS)
  • Tumble VR (SCE WWS)
  • Until Dawn: Rush of Blood (SCE WWS)
  • PlayStation VR Worlds (SCE WWS)
