Prepare your wallet for $20-$40 more, depending on the plan.
If you use PlayStation Plus, prepare for a bit of sticker shock. According to Sony’s PlayStation blog, all tiers of the service are going up in price soon, and globally.
The blog post starts with next month’s Essential tier free games, which don’t exactly inspire much satisfaction in the increased price for PS Plus. You get Swedish robot adventure (and clear winner of the month) Generation Zero, the Traveler Edition of MMO Black Desert, and one of 2022’s biggest stinkers: Saint’s Row (2022).
You, uh, see Sony, the trick to the whole “spoonful of sugar” thing is to, you know, use sugar.
Anyway, the post then goes on to list out the new prices:
PlayStation Plus Essential 12-Month Subscription
79.99 USD | 71,99 Euro | 59.99 GBP | 6,800 Yen
PlayStation Plus Extra 12-Month Subscription
134.99 USD | 125,99 Euro | 99.99 GBP | 11,700 Yen
PlayStation Plus Premium 12-Month Subscription
159.99 USD | 151,99 Euro | 119.99 GBP | 13,900 Yen
Essential tier goes from $60 to $80 (a $20 increase), Extra goes from $100 to $135 ($35 increase), and Premium goes from $120 to $160 ($40 increase), This isn’t arbitrary; these all equate to a roughly 33% increase across the board over their previous prices.
The new prices go into effect on September 6th. The silver lining to this is that PlayStation Plus subscriptions stack. So, if you had the disposable income to do so, you could buy several years of subscription with the old prices before the new ones go into effect.
