Plans for integration set for 2022.
Sony and Discord have announced a partnership that will see the popular messaging app integrated with users’ PlayStation experience. The integration is planned to begin in early 2022, though few concrete details have surfaced.
The blog post, written by PlayStation’s Jim Ryan, elaborates:
Together, our teams are already hard at work connecting Discord with your social and gaming experience on PlayStation Network. Our goal is to bring the Discord and PlayStation experiences closer together on console and mobile starting early next year, allowing friends, groups, and communities to hang out, have fun, and communicate more easily while playing games together.
Jim Ryan, PlayStation President & CEO
Sony also invested in in Discord as part of their Series H funding round, though the numbers attached to this investment have not been publicly disclosed.
This comes hot on the heels of several bits of news concerning Discord and Microsoft. Notably, a deal between the two was reached for Discord integration in Halo Infinite for PC. There was also news of Microsoft considering buying Discord for $10 billion, however, Discord decided at the time to remain independent.
