According to the ESRB, still not gambling.
Thanks to a cheat engine, PC players of Middle-earth: Shadow of War are able to get infinite loot boxes. Well, at least, infinite common loot boxes.
Programs like Cheat Engine allow players to generate as much Mirian (the in-game currency) as they like. They can then use that to buy loot boxes. These boxes can carry anything from gear to Uruks – though none of those Uruks will be Legendary. Those only drop from loot boxes that can only be purchased with gold; that costs you real money.
Needless to say, nobody is actually happy with that, since Legendary Uruks are the sort you need to reasonably finish endgame. And since the acquisition of gold is tracked, as it costs real money, you can’t exactly cheat yourself a pile of it without it being functionally unspendable. This leaves you with only one other option for Legendary Uruks: one hell of a grind.
So, in summary, cheating in this way makes early and mid-game much easier. But the cheating in Middle-earth: Shadow of War isn’t going to lend players too much of an unfair advantage. For that, you must pay or suffer.
