Yet another holy grail once again in the wild.
Some of you over the age of 20 might remember the buzz around a little Blizzard game that never was by the name of StarCraft Ghost. The game, a third-person shooter starring StarCraft‘s Nova, was announced in 2002 for the PS2, Xbox, and Gamecube. It was apparently shelved in 2006, though many held out hope they’d revisit the project someday. That is, until Blizzard’s then president, Mike Morhaime, officially pronounced it dead in 2014.
It was unlikely that anyone would ever get to give the game a spin, outside of the handful of people that got to play a demo back in the day. But apparently, a complete, playable build was found on an old dev kit for the Xbox.
A few YouTubers even uploaded video of the game, like Delso Bezerra below:
The game appears to be a pretty standard third-person shooter of the time, though. Which may be the reason Blizzard canned it. They’ve never been shy about killing a project that doesn’t meet their standards; even ones that are, functionally, finished. Like, for example, Warcraft Adventures: Lord of the Clans:
Still, it’s a wonder that one of the more famous “could’ve-beens” has been released in the wild. Granted, you should probably exercise the usual cautions if you’re the sort of bicorne-wearing person of low moral fiber that might go looking for it. But it is out there, and playable through some method (supposedly, via modded Xbox 360).
That said, someone at Blizzard is probably having a conniption right about now.
