This might’ve been a foregone conclusion.
The other day, I wrote a rather nasty article about GameStop’s insistence that they’re an essential business. Which was particularly galling from them, since not only are they not essential retail, they’re deliberately risking their employees health by doing so during this crisis. Well, it seems the inevitable other shoe has dropped. At least, in Pennsylvania.
Per a Reddit thread, it seems that Pennsylvania governor Tom Wolf has pulled GameStop’s business license in response to their flagrant disregard for the public health.
The thread itself features not only PA residents, but actual GameStop employees weighing in on the closure. And all of them are happy to see it. Some of my favorite quotes:

“Please reuse the same masks as much as possible. Limit cleaning to once per day to conserve wipes”

“Each store has been provided one mask. In order to allow 10 people in each store, please seek out additional masks in local businesses and pay for it out of pocket. Associates will be reimbursed for these costs by receiving a comparable level of GS stock upon their death.”

are the employees going to get paid for the closure though? Or compensated for the time they did work in the conditions?

GameStop cares absolutely fuck all about employees. They’ve got a horrific record as of late. The executives are literally so ruthless that they’re laughing about a potential strike because it’ll give them an excuse to fire everyone and replace them with lower paid employees.

That’s not a gamestop question. That’s all business’s running right now. I work on aircraft components and we are still working and three guys in my shop were sick a the last few weeks.
Gamestop is not the only company staying open. Barnes and Noble is still open. The ceo said if they close then the company is dead.

He will just have to start a new game store company, with black jack and hookers
[…] Another retailer, GameStop, had its business license suspended by Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf. The gaming store self-labeled itself “essential” after the governor ordered all non-essential businesses to close. The store since shut down all of its locations, but still received some negative publicity for non-compliance. (Gambitmag) […]
