Peacock Orders Frogger Game Show Series

Frogger

Yeah, I had to check the calendar too. Don’t feel bad.

NBC’s Peacock has decided to produce a game show based off of one of gaming’s longest standing mascots, Frogger.

The show, which was announce Tuesday, sees contestants compete on courses, dubbed “crossings”, resembling stages from the games writ large. So basically, it’ll involve a bunch of grown people essentially playing in (simulated) traffic.

Per the casting call:

Jump back to the 80’s in this toadally radical physical competition game show!

Fans of the classic video game will dodge treacherous traffic, leap over snapping gators and hop over hungry hippos to conquer the course.

Whether you’re a thrill seeker with a thirst for adventure or a BIG personality ready to make a splash…

Don’t miss this HOPportunity to compete for a HUGE CASH PRIZE!

If you wanted to sign up, the entry form is here. That said, the form is long, the requirements are probably as you’d expect for a physical challenge game show, and the shooting schedule requires you to be prepared to spend “three to five potentially non-consecutive filming weeks from May 22 to June 26, 2021” shooting it in Australia.

In addition, they want people with a love of Frogger and the 80’s, and they also want to know of any mental or physical skills that would help you compete. And on top of that, they also encourage you to send them a 2 minute video of yourself giving the usual name, age, location (probabbly for those pre-game intros) alongside “why you want to win and what you love about the 80’s”, and any personality you add is a bonus to them.

It’s probably easy to dismiss this as something potentially desperate for the service. But, that’s likely because you haven’t noticed the number of physical challenge shows that have seen a bit of a boom since COVID hit. After all, most of these courses are sizeable, and there’s typically one person on them at a time anyway, making the current health guidelines even easier to follow than a number of other types of game shows as well as scripted programs.

Well, there’s one man I’m sure will sign up:

There I did it. I made the joke everyone else already has.
