Well, this sucks. Writer, producer, comedian, author, and generally funny guy Harris Wittels has been found dead of a suspected overdose in his Los Angeles apartment. He was thirty years old.
From Variety:
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, he was found at around noon Thursday by his assistant at his home. Wittels had previously been open with his struggles with drug addiction, and has been to rehab twice.
Wittels was a longtime producer and writer on Parks and Recreation (where he sometimes appeared as Harris, one half of Pawnee’s comically inept Animal Control Department), and also wrote for Eastbound & Down and The Sarah Silverman Program. In addition, he’s credited with coining the term “humblebrag,” and in 2012 he published the book Humblebrag: The Art of False Modesty.
Wittels was open about his substance abuse problems, and it looks like they may have gotten the better of him. It always sucks when funny people die, but this could happen to anyone. If you or someone you know is at risk, get help.
