Parmount Television and Anonymous Content have secured the rights to the mega-franchise video game series Battlefield to turn it into a television series. Anonymous Content’s Michael Sugar (Spotlight, The Knick) and Ashley Zalta will serve as executive producers on the project.
Battlefield is a first-person shooter that that saw each game take place in a different period of time and war. It may sound like a weird project, but as these games are multiplayer focused there really isn’t much of a story aside from shot the other team. This means that the show is open to explore war, but with the Battlefield name hopefully bringing in a new market of viewers.
“Paramount TV actively seeks smart content from all sectors that will resonate with audiences and translate to compelling programming,” said Amy Powell, President, Paramount TV.
“EA’s Battlefield has an incredibly dynamic narrative, coupled with a loyal fan base, which will allow us to bring this exciting and unique property to the small screen. We look forward to working with EA and Anonymous Content and thank Michael Sugar for his tenacity in bringing us this exciting project.”
No word on possible cast or when we can expect to the the show, but who I still have this weird feeling we will never see this project actually make it to series. Still, I’ve been wrong before and there aren’t many military shows on the air that focus on the people in the trenches.
