Overwatch: Mercy Gets Nerfed… Again

Overwatch

This will surely fix everything.

If you play Overwatch, Mercy getting a heavy nerf is not a new thing. as a matter of fact, she’s been getting beaten with the nerf stick for a while at this point. Well, it’s happening again, because the new patch has a whole bunch of new nerfs for her.

Originally, they nerfed her resurrect by moving it to a single target E ability and giving her a new Ultimate. Resurrect was still too powerful, so they made it so that it stopped being fire and forget; there was now a 1½ second period where she needed to focus on the target. Even that wound up being too weak a nerf, though, because her new Ult, Valkyrie, made it instant and reset its cooldown, with an extra charge to boot. Well, they’ve removed both, now, as well as cutting the speed boost the Ult gave Guardian Angel by half, and cutting Valkyrie’s active time by 5 seconds,  leaving its effect time at a total of 15 seconds.

Mercy

  • Valkyrie
    • No longer makes Resurrect instant
    • No longer grants a bonus Resurrect charge
    • The speed bonus Guardian Angel receives when activating Valkyrie has been decreased by 50%
    • Duration reduced from 20 seconds to 15 seconds

Developer Comments: Mercy’s recent Resurrect changes have helped in allowing enemies to have more counter play in dealing with her, but she was able to use Resurrect through Valkyrie enough to largely mitigate the impact of the previous changes. Additionally, we’re toning back the amount of mobility Valkyrie provides through Guardian Angel and reducing its duration to overall reduce the power of this ability.

And you know what? That still won’t keep her from being the top pick for healers. Because she’s still single-handedly the most effective single-target healer by far. Until they either buff the other healers or nerf her healing a bit, people will still be salty over her “undoing their kills/cancelling out pushes”. And playing support will still be frowned on, despite the fact that a good healer is worth their weight in gold. This’ll probably all end when she basically has nothing left to recommend her over other characters.
