If you are an Origin user (yes, they exist!) you probably got an email sent to you this morning about a pending change to the service. At first I thought it was an email about another FIFA coins hack (I’m still miffed about that), but when I opened up the email I noticed that this big change is only in name only.
Sometime in the near future all Origin Accounts will re-brand themselves as EA Accounts. As a user nothing is going to change for you. I always wondered why Origin was chosen as every game on the service was from EA, and it that those in charge have finally noticed this as well.
It makes sense from a branding point of view as Origin doesn’t really connect with anything EA, but one has to wonder how long it will be before they do the dance and change things back again (how many times is it now?) to Origin.
Okay, enough poking fun at Origin… Err, EA. The service has been getting better since its launch, and since it’s the only place to really be able to score EA games, it’s a necessity for PC gamers looking for that EA fix. I’m also a big fan of their classic PC game offerings as well as their “On The House” free games that they toss our way.
EA made the following statement:
“We have changed our player account branding from Origin to EA to represent all of the EA properties and services our players use to interact with us …Your Origin Account credentials are now your EA credentials.”
