OnlyFans To Ban Porn From Their Platform

OnlyFans

You shall be as Tumblr.

As announced Thursday by the company, OnlyFans is banning porn from their platform.

It’s not like this is coming out of left field; there had been ruminations of the move for some time. And the decision is much the same as it was for Tumblr. Mostly because, despite the fact that sex sells (and well, considering their over $12 billion in total sales), it makes investors and payment processors a bit on edge. After all, there’s not really much of a barrier to keep underage users out; either from subscribing to an adult content provider, or worse, becoming one.

OnlyFans made the following statement to Input:

Effective 1 October, 2021, OnlyFans will prohibit the posting of any content containing sexually-explicit conduct. In order to ensure the long-term sustainability of the platform, and to continue to host an inclusive community of creators and fans, we must evolve our content guidelines. Creators will continue to be allowed to post content containing nudity as long as it is consistent with our Acceptable Use Policy. These changes are to comply with the requests of our banking partners and payout providers. We will be sharing more details in the coming days, and we will actively support and guide our creators through this change in content guidelines.

While this is likely a move they had to make simply to keep doing business, it’s probably not going to be to their benefit in the long run. OnlyFans is pretty much synonymous with porn. While nude photos will still, supposedly, be allowed, there’s not any news on what will happen to existing NSFW content.
