Because Hollywood will never, ever get tired of jerking off while looking in a mirror, Jessica Chastain has just signed on to play Marilyn Monroe in Blonde (the fact that the movie is called Blonde tells you how much consideration is given to Monroe as a person instead of a sex icon who gets constantly misquoted on Facebook).
Blonde comes from Andrew Dominik, which seems like a pretty unconventional choice (he directed Killing Them Softly and The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford), but apparently Blonde is a passion project for him, dating back to 2010.
Look, there’s nothing I care about less than this. People “like” Monroe in the same way they “like” Elvis: as a camp icon. The lesson here is, if you want to make a movie about a drug addict who sleeps with married men, it helps if your main character is named Marilyn Monroe.
