It’s official: Colin Farrell is joining True Detective

All the casting rumors surrounding True Detective‘s second season have been one of the most fun yet frustrating parts of the Internet for the better part of three months. Names like Brad Pitt and Jessica Chastain were bandied about, but turned out to be false leads; other names, like Taylor Kitsch, Vince Vaughn, and Elisabeth Moss came up in the conversation, but seemed to carry more weight. Now, finally, one casting rumor has finally been confirmed: Colin Farrell will be in True Detective.

The Irish newspaper Sunday World has the exclusive (LOL wut?):

The Dub last night confirmed he’s been cast in HBO’s award-winning True Detective and added: “I’m doing the second series. I’m so excited.”

I am totally okay with this. Colin Farrell is a great actor who made an instant impression after appearing in films like Minority Report and Tigerland. Granted, he’s made some mistakes, like The Recruit or Winter’s Tale, but his roles in Horrible Bosses and In Bruges prove that he’s an actor of uncommon depth, who can rise to the level of the material he’s given. I think True Detective creator Nic Pizzolatto is just the right man to challenge him.

Thanks to The AV Club for the heads up.
