NVIDIA would like Retailers to Prioritize Gamers for Graphics Cards

(Cryptocurrency) Miners can get the black lung for all they care.

Cryptocurrency has accomplished a number of things. Like create an entire economy of its own. Put an absolute expiration date on rewatching Almost Human. And force me to repeatedly write about it despite the fact that I openly hate it at this point. But one of the controversial things it has done is screw with the market for graphics cards by driving prices up, and NVIDIA isn’t terribly pleased with it.

So in a statement they made to German site ComputerBase.de, NVIDIA has made clear that they prioritize gamers:

For NVIDIA, gamers come first. All activities related to our GeForce product line are targeted at our main audience. To ensure that GeForce gamers continue to have good GeForce graphics card availability in the current situation, we recommend that our trading partners make the appropriate arrangements to meet gamers’ needs as usual.

While there’s little they can do about the situation, as they’re producing at their maximum possible capacity as it is, it’s nice to know they’re thinking of us. Even if most crypto rigs use a buttload of graphics cards and there’s no way to assure that cards won’t get bought up for that purpose. They can really only make suggestions to retailers, like possibly limiting the number sold per customer. That is, however, part of the reason they personally sell their cards on their site. As to how effective their overall plan will be, that’s anyone’s guess.
